Lips

A lip treatment is a three–part process usually completed within two appointments.

The price you are quoted will include all three stages.

THE CONSULTATION

The first part of the process is a consultation. This is normally done as part of your initial treatment, but can be done separately if you prefer. I will talk with you in great detail about the look you are trying to achieve and my recommendation to you. This is very much a two-way conversation.  Once we have an idea of the look you are aiming for, I will draw the lip contour and color on with a makeup pencil. These can be drawn on and adjusted many times if necessary until you are happy!  I will never begin the tattoo process until you are completely happy with what they are going to look like.

PERMANENT MAKEUP TREATMENT

Using a specialist, state of the art facial tattooing machine, Nouveau Contour, which works at a much lower frequency than a standard tattoo machine, I gently apply pigment to the lips using very fine needles.  The sensation is that of an electric toothbrush being held against your skin, you will feel the vibrations but you should not feel much discomfort. I will always work with you at this stage, giving you breaks if you need them. The process normally takes about 90 minutes, but it varies from person to person depending on your individual requirements. After a lip treatment you are likely to be swollen, so we do not advise making any social plans for a few days afterwards.

THE RETOUCH

A second appointment is needed 4-12 weeks after your first treatment. This is usually a 30-60 minute appointment to add more pigment to the brow area. This is because as the area is healing, some parts may not ‘hold’ as well as others and you may have a few patches that need more colour. This is completely normal and everyone heals differently. Whatever the case, we advise you always come back for your retouch.

Q&As

Q.  Will it hurt?

A.  Lips can be a little more sensitive than brows or eyes, due to the larger surface area and greater blood supply. I will do my very best to reduce discomfort by using topical numbing cream throughout the treatment.

Q.  What will my lips look like immediately after the treatment?

A.  You may experience some swelling and redness immediately after the treatment. After this you may experience tenderness, flaking, dryness, swelling and redness for approximately 2-5 days after the treatment. If you are feeling less than 100% healthy it may take longer for your treatment to heal and symptoms may appear more prominent.

Q.  Are there any foods I should avoid after the treatment?

A.  If you have had a lip treatment, you should avoid eating spicy and salty foods until the area has healed. You should also drink liquids through a straw.

Q.  I have a cold sore on my lip at the moment; can I have a lip treatment?

A.  No. The outbreak must be fully healed in order for a permanent cosmetics lip treatment to be performed.  Permanent cosmetics do not cause cold sores, however, if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the body and can be aroused by the treatment.  If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) you should contact your doctor to obtain the proper prescription medication to prevent such outbreaks. You should use for one week before and one week after your treatment. This can help to minimise an outbreak.
